A few years ago there was a monthly magazine called, “Looking Back,” issued by the same company that publishes “The Good Old Days” magazine. With the downturn in the economy, and especially in the publishing industry, “Looking Back” was merged into “The Good Old Days,” a bi-monthly magazine.
Of course, what really bothers me is that the magazine––and I suspect the rest of society––when referring to “the good old days” are not talking about the 30s, 40s and 50s. No……
In a minute, I’ll tell you what that “worst thing is.”
Today I received a copy of an e-mail that was sent by the Leader of the Phoenix Book Publishing and Marketing Meet-up Group to the winners of the recent 35-day Blog Challenge–i.e., those people who had posted a blog every day for the 35 days of the Challenge, from September 13 to October 17, 2015.
I was stunned––my name was significantly absent from the list.
My friends…..
Why is it that early morning “blahs” always remind me of Frank Sinatra singing “One for my baby, and one more for the road.” Why? And why would I have early morning blahs today? After all, my quartet (Lilac Crazy) WON FIRST PLACE in the Senior Idol contest in Surprise, Arizona, this past Wednesday. And we have lots more performances coming up this fall and winter. I should be walking on air! (Actually, more like limping on aching feet.)
With a little help from a couple of writer friends, and the crazy world that invades my senses just about every day, I managed to generate a blog for thirty-five straight days. Hurrah!
Now, the question is…”Where do I go from here?” I’ve had a couple of ideas and I’d like the help of my blog readers in deciding my future course of action…(that is, regarding blogs. Knowing some of my readers, I’m afraid of what they might suggest I…..
(This is a continuation of the writing prompts suggested by Laura of the Phoenix Book Publishing and Marketing Group.)
Describe your first book signing – real or imagined.
My first book signing and presentation came about through the good graces of my Edward Jones representative (and I’m sure I didn’t imagine it.) He gave up his seminar date and time at a local retirement community so that I could do a reading from my book, accompanied by a doo-wop concert…..
Today I’m going to utilize a few of the blog prompts from Laura, the fearless leader of the Phoenix Book Publishing and Marketing Meet-up Group, to which I belong.
Did you publish your book as a traditionally printed book, an eBook, an audiobook, or all three? How did you come to your decision? When…..
The other day, one of the members of the Phoenix Book Publishing and Marketing Group posted the following graph on Facebook––four interlocking circles labeled “That which you love,” “That which you are good at,” “That which the world needs,” and “That which you can be paid for.” (Click on the following to see the graph.) Passion:mission Graph
Where Love overlaps Talent, that is one’s Passion; and where Love overlaps World Need, that represents a person’s Mission in life. World…..
I started writing these daily blogs as a result of my participation in a 35-day Blog Challenge posed by Laura, who is the leader of our meet-up group, The Phoenix Publishing and Book Marketing Group. To assist some of us in coming up with ideas for our blogs, Laura gave us several prompts to use as blog topics.
Most of the time, I don’t need a prompt to come up with a blog topic. I just look around at the…..
The other day I attended an informational session put on by my HMO. They were supposed to be giving their patients new information about the medical plans for 2016. The main presenter obviously knew his material, and he had a keen understanding of the computer and his Power Point slide presentation.
However, he didn’t know the first thing about using a microphone. And neither did his young, attractive, well-endowed female assistant.
Here’s what I have observed in my many…..
One of the things I love (and sometimes gripe about) is the forwarded e-mails I receive from friends. But I do like the funny ones. However, I’m afraid I’m doomed to perdition because I don’t forward the e-mails that threaten my soul is going to you-know-where if I don’t. I guess I’ll take that chance.
One I received today is very relevant to my situation, because I live in Peoria, Arizona––a suburb of Phoenix. All too often, I am required…..
