I wrote this poem last week, after re-reading “A Visit From Saint Nicholas.” It’s obvious that I was in a “blue mood” when I started the poem, but the more I wrote, the more I began to feel better as I realized that I actually enjoy my life the way it is now. I attended the annual Southwest Writers Conference last month––I attend every year because it’s nearby and not too costly. I suppose I’m trying to become a writer. Or, perhaps I should say, “a published writer.” I fervently desire to write well enough to be accepted by an agent and subsequently published by one of the “Big Five.” That hasn’t happened … yet.

Earlier this month, I attended the Southwestern Writers Conference in Avondale, Arizona, and heard a couple of local writer celebrities discussing how to write fiction successfully. I was gratified to hear each of them advocate some sort of planning or structure in the writing process.
